24/04/2017 - Taverham Knit and Natter
The Taverham Knit & Natter regularly supports Arthritis Uk with items for sale at the stall in The Norfolk & Norwich Hospital through our member Jan, but recently we have been involved in a new project, helping The Alzheimer Society put a new record in The Guiness Book of Records. Another of our members, Daphne organised the patterns for woolly snakes and eventually posted off 51, produced in record time too. The record was broken at over a thousand and the snakes will be sold to raise funds for the Society. We enjoyed making the snakes so much a few might appear round the Bishop's Garden on July 16th. Another of our members, Eileen Dungar has donated some wonderful knitted shops and shopkeepers as well as toys and flowers, animals and all sorts of creatures for the summer event. Meanwhile we all continue to enjoy knitting a vast range of items knowing they are all appreciated by those in need. Margaret
16/04/2017 - New Routes
Just a note to thank you for searching out material for our refugees at New Routes. I was there this morning with about 6 women from Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sudan and Congo. One woman brought in the dress she had made for herself from Norfolk Knitters donation and we have a photo of it. When the stash of material was put on the table the women fell on it. The class closes for the Easter holidays as most of the women have children and need to be at home with them, so many took fabric away to work on at home over the next weeks. Grey flannel for boys' trousers, red spots for an apron, Blue spots for a daughter's dress, paisley needlecord for an indoor frock - out in public she wears much more sombre colours. One Woman's Weekly cut out dress and pattern was taken to be re-sized for a daughter, white with gold bell fabric for a blouse, blue wool for a skirt I persuaded the class leader to take a spring green linen cut out dress and pattern for her spring treat. There and then a young woman turned a very 70s length of orange and pink flowers into a bed cover this was followed by three cushions and best of all a long length of muslin/voile window dressing fabric was turned into prayer shawls for two of them to use in Ramadan. It was a great joy to see all this recycled and put to such good use. I'll keep in touch with the group to see how else we can help. Hopefully we will have some of their garments to show at the Bishop's do. Best wishes and thanks Patricia
11/04/2017 - Flat pack teddies
I am writing to thank you, and your ladies, for the lovely teddies which arrived a couple of weeks ago. I have started stuffing the teddies and hope to have enough to take to the children in he hospital next week. Please thank the ladies for leaving long threads of matching wool for the stitching up. Also for sewing the faces and ears it is very much appreciated. At the moment I do not have any help with finishing them off, but we are starting a "Ladies get-together Morning" during the week, and this will be one of the things we will ask them to help with. Once again a very big thank you, I really appreciate your kindness. I wish I could send pictures of the children but we are not permitted to take photo's in the hospital. God Bless you all, Regards Jacky
11/04/2017 - Home Instead Senior Care
Thank you so much for the lovely twiddle muffs you delivered to us last week. We are in the process of identifying people for these and will be delivering them soon. We will be running our “Be A Santa To A Senior” at Christmas again this year and would be very grateful for anything you would be able to donate to this again. Last year the blankets and twiddle muffs were very popular and well received by people who may not of otherwise had a present to open on Christmas day. Thank you all very much once again.
08/01/2017 - Community Action for Refugees in West London
We just had a family activity day and gave away the last of the hot water bottle covers knitted by Pat and her team of knitters. The last few went to some new Syrian families who were really pleased- we had a lovely day making puppets for a theatre show on Thursday, cooking, playing out in the sunshine, and then to be able to give a gift was the icing on the cake. Huge thanks to Pat and her lovely knitters!
